Does anyone else watch the Mr Men?
My TV watching these days is largely early in the morning with my son. So imagine my surprise when I heard Gordon Brown's voice coming from Children's TV. Actually, as I watched further, the dulcet tones of the PM were coming from a green cuboid - Mr Stubborn. I don't think Barker Jr understood the near hysteria from his Mum at this - but it sure made my day!
This week I have already been reminded how short a time we have to get rid of this government. David Cameron certainly gave a message that resonated with me - We will not let you down. It's simple really - 5 more years of Brown or Change with the Conservatives and David Cameron? Actually 66 days is still a long time in politics - so off we go canvassing this evening and in between casework and other campaigning - I might get a few minutes off. But I don't want to let you down - so I'm up for some hard work, are you?
1. Act NOW on debt to get economy moving 2. Get Britain working by boosting enterprise 3. Make Britain the most family friendly country in Europe 4. Back the NHS 5. Raise standards in schools 6. Change politics
So glad to be fighting on these messages - which are those I hear day in day out form constituents. Let me know your ideas and views. Cheers from sunny Brighton!
I hear rumblings that the election might be announced this weekend. Whatever, I think my team and I are ready for it. I've got some great support and am looking forward to seeing a few old friends this weekend in Brighton at our Spring Forum.
Locally we are still hearing strange things about Sparkhill Baths and PFI...watch this space. I am also aware that policing of certain parts of the constituency is perhaps not as intense as it might be - it's amazing how the boundary areas can be neglected - note to self - make sure we come and canvass you!
If you have not checked out myconservatives.com yet then please do so - you can get more directly involved in the Hall Green Campaign - Vote Barker for Change 2010!
It’s always been clear that Brown was not in charge of a happy bunch – 3 coup attempts since he became PM might give a clue. Briefing and counter briefing, Mandelson spinning such a web that he got caught in it himself – maybe the PM is not a bully – but surely he should have looked into allegations of what was going on in his office? His failure to do so surely does not smell right.
I am celebrating the de-mystification and de-politicisation of the planning process today! Going open source and removing a lot of bureaucracy is good news for any of us who work in the sector – but also for everyone who wants to put up a porch or fence!
It’s obvious they have run out of steam as a government and with ideas like the above – it’s about time for a fresh approach to save Britain.
So the crisis continues. How have this load of incompetents managed to have the first January (when we all pay our taxes at the last minute) in the red ever? I know it reflects the tax take in the previous year – but it is still ridiculous to have to borrow £4.3bn in one month. So now we are on target for worse public finances than Greece. Will our credit rating be downgraded? My how Prudence has failed – no return to boom and bust – just bust and bust. Apparently voting Conservative will lead to permanent recession –duh? Can Brown really think that as the man in charge of the money for so long, who got us into this mess, any of us really believes that? Was I hearing right or are tandoors exploding in the Balti Triangle? Did I dream it or am I likely to be splattered with tasty morsels on my next trip to Sparkbrook? I’m sure it was just Chris Evans and another unbelievable stunt – perhaps someone could reassure me? Oh and by the way - come to Solihull for an Action Day with Maggie Throup tomorrow.
Did you hear David Cameron on Woman’s Hour? I was lucky enough to be in the car listening. I had a smile on my face throughout (similar to the one left). I thought he came over really well and also as being really real!
I don’t want to discriminate against anyone– but at the moment the tax and benefitsystem actually discriminates against marriage and couples staying together! If you make the choice to get married and maybe have a family, thus contributing to the next generation in our country, then some support or recognition of this seems the right thing to do. If you are single I recognise the howls at this as you take up theslack for maternity leave and school holidays– but at least financially this is neutral (if nothing else). I guess that the real test of leadership is taking a stand on issues and taking the flak as it comes.
Go for it David– this country needs brave leadership– we’re behind you!
